Isaiah 11:1

Are you any good at growing vegetables or fruit?

It might seem a bit silly to chop back a healthy plant or tree, because it can feel like we are destroying it – but this actually makes it produce more fruit in the next season!

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a branch will bear fruit.
Isaiah 11:1

The people of God in the Old Testament had suffered a lot; they had been all enslaved, then led around a desert for 40 years, and endured countless battles, sieges and bad rulers.

Yet they had hope.

God had promised that he would restore his people to himself, and he does so.

God had promised that his Saviour would come from the Israelite nation, and despite seemingly impossible odds, he does so.

Today, our world is desperate and crying out for justice. Millions of people lack food, water and housing. Hundreds of thousands live in the middle of battlefields.

#HowWillTheyHear the Good News about Jesus?

Today, PRAY with us;

  • Pray that God would somehow use the refugee crisis and the horrors of war to bring people close to him.
  • Praise God that he kept his promise about providing a Saviour from the shoot of Jesse!
    Pray that the Lord would sustain them, that he would provide shelter, food and water for them. Pray that he would guard their children against diseases and infection. Pray that he would give them his hope in the darkness of uncertainty.
