Christmas is a season for families – for reuniting with those around us. It’s great, joyful and very busy!
But it is hard for those who live far away from their families, or who don’t have any family left. And this is where as Christians we can really encourage those around and amongst us who find Christmas difficult – we are all family in Christ.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
God is not just an abstract energy force or theoretical concept way above us – he is our heavenly Father who actively takes notice of us, and who cares for us. He deliberately intervenes in our lives, in history and in the world around us.
The entire message of Christmas is exactly this: God came down personally as a man to walk amongst us.
There will still be those in our community who are lonely this season. There are 258 million international migrants; people living away from their home communities and searching for security.
But imagine what a difference it would make if every Christian and every church acted together in compassionate love, reaching out to them this Christmas and welcomed them into their church families?
So today’s GO and SERVE in two ways;
- Distribute invitations online or in person to those around you to join you at a local Christmas service. If you are helping at one of the services or events, make sure that there is food or drink available and that each newcomer feels welcomed and comfortable!
- Take a Christmas card and a mince pie or something round to some neighbours, sharing the love of the Christian family as demonstrated by Jesus to the community around you.
Praise God that Jesus came for everyone – regardless of background or current situation!
Thank God that salvation and a new start, free from shame and sin, is available to all who believe in Jesus
Pray that many people would come into God’s family as new brothers and sisters in Christ, from every tribe and nation.
